Trinity Will Not Be Broken

Trinity Will Not Be Broken is the sibling piece to Sweet Queen—but this time, the focus is on Black fatherhood. This work is layered with candy whose names playfully and pointedly reference ideas of masculinity and fatherhood. Woven through the piece are ripped, collaged images of Black men at different stages of fatherhood: the bachelor, the new dad, and the elderly father surrounded by his sons.
This piece is about lineage, presence, and the ways Black men move through time and identity as fathers. It’s a celebration, but also a reflection—on how fatherhood is both an individual and collective experience, shaped by love, growth, and legacy.
Where Sweet Queen honors the power of Black women, Trinity Will Not Be Unbroken holds space for Black men—to be seen, remembered, and held in all their complexity.
